ABOUT

Mel’s experience entails a previous career as an Art Director in the publishing industry working on titles such as Fashion Quarterly, Home & Entertaining, and Fashion Quarterly Entertaining amongst others. She was awarded MPA Art Director of the Year for her art direction and design for the magazine Fashion Quarterly Entertaining.

After leaving the publishing industry and becoming a full-time parent to three boys, Mel embarked on a learning phase of studying family therapy, counseling, art therapy, colour psychology, Interactive Drawing Therapy, Intuitive Collage, and Process Art - becoming a certified process arts facilitator, holding workshops and sessions from her studio.

Mel returned to study abstraction painting after recognising the desire to paint and express herself creatively in this way. After receiving a placement at Elam School of Fine Arts, Mel decided to attend Browne Art School; studying painting over a period of five years.

Mel has been represented since 2018 by Frame Gallery, Herne Bay, Auckland, NZ and this year is excited to be working in collaboration with a New Zealand homeware company, and also presenting her first Solo Show.
